Consume food that is enriched in omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and Vitamin C and E. This helps reduce the chances of age-related vision problems like macular degeneration and cataracts. So now, start eating more green leafy vegetables, oily fish, eggs, nuts, and beans, orange, citrus, oysters, and pork.

2. Smoking is Not Just Bad for the Lungs, but for the Eyes as well!
Smoking can lead to cataracts, optic nerve damage, and macular degeneration. Smoking endangers the tiny blood vessels on our retina and when these retinal blood vessels break, leak, or become blocked, this affects our vision in a bad manner. People with diabetic retinopathy experience severe eye damage due to blood vessels growing on the retina’s surface.

3. Wear Sunglasses!
Guard your eyes against the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. Too much exposure to UV rays escalates the threat of cataracts and macular degeneration. Pick out sunglasses that block 99% to 100% of UVA and UVB rays. Glasses with wraparound lenses help protect our eyes from the side too. There are also contact lenses that offer UV protection.

4. Safe Eyewear for Safe Eyes!
When dealing with harmful or airborne materials, always wear safety glasses or protective goggles. Some sports like ice hockey, racquetball, and lacrosse may lead to accidents causing eye damage so dealing with these sports will require protective eyewear.

5. Screen Time, Protection Time!
When looking at digital screens, practice the 20-20-20 rule to relax your eyes. Every 20 minutes, look at an object with a distance of 20 feet away for a span of 20 seconds. Also, use eye drops throughout the day to help keep your eyes lubricated. It is also highly suggested if you sit at an arm’s length away from your screen, which is more or less 25 inches away.
