Most of the ocular supplements being sold over-the-counter, on the internet or through health care providers contain vitamin E as d-alpha tocopherol. This is a good option, but not as complete as a product that also contains the other forms such as beta, gamma and delta tocopherol. Most also contain vitamin A as beta carotene (often synthetic) which is also good, but not as good as the all-natural mixed carotenoids and vitamin A. We could go on and on regarding what is available and what we recommend, but the eye health vitamins we recommend contain not only the natural mixed tocopherols (vitamin E) and the natural mixed carotenoids (vitamin A), but also contain the other eye health vitamins known to prevent, reduce and in some cases reverse ARMD. These nutrients are pure astaxanthin (Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Anti-Aging Journal), pure mesozeaxanthin (Nutritional Metabolism) and the other nutrients such as vitamin C, lutein, bilberry, zeaxanthin, B-1 and B-2 in their natural phosphorylated forms, pantothenic acid, zinc, selenium NADH and pregnenolone all known to also prevent, support and in some cases reverse ARMD. All of these nutrients are available in Mesozeaxanthin Complex, the only formula we have found to be effective for ARMD.
