Born and raised in Phoenix, AZ., Dr. Aleta Gong is a Board Certified Fellow of both the American Academy of Optometry and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. As a child, Dr. Gong suffered from visual dysfunctions that severely affected her success in school. Fortunately, Dr. Gong’s parents discovered the benefits of Vision Therapy, and after successful treatment, Dr. Gong tested into the gifted program. These successes instilled a passion for becoming an optometrist with gratitude for Vision Therapy.
Dr. Gong received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego (Revelle-double major), and her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern California College of Optometry (Marshall B. Ketchum University), followed by Fellowships from the American Academy of Optometry and from the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. In addition, Dr. Gong received extensive training from two Corneal Specialists, thus providing her the skills and knowledge to fit specialty contacts.
Throughout her career, Dr. Gong has served as one of two State Directors for the Special Olympics Opening Eyes Program which provides comprehensive eye exams, glasses, sunglasses, and sports goggles for hundreds of athletes every year. She also implemented the InfantSEE Program in AZ which provides free eye exams for infants under the age of one.
Dr. Gong served on the Board of the Arizona Optometric Association in 2002 and served as its President in 2008-2009. She then served on the Board of Directors for the AzOCF, the charitable arm of the Arizona Optometric Association. Dr. Gong became President of the AzOCF in 2016.
Dr. Gong is a COPE reviewer for the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry, reviewing lectures given by other doctors around the nation and has graded eye exams for the Arizona licensing board.
In 2012, Dr. Gong became an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor for the Arizona College of Optometry at Midwestern University.
Dr. Gong is a member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, the College of Syntonics, the American Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, including the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, Optometric Extension Program, and the Arizona Optometric Association.
Dr. Gong excels at being one of the best optometrists in Phoenix, AZ., and was voted 2015 Optometrist of the Year by the Arizona Optometric Association.
